OUR CURRICULUM
Right Start Academy will utilize age appropriate, education-based and age-based levels of curriculum designed to promote each child’s intellectual, social, physical, and emotional development. During the school year, the curriculum emphasizes more structured academics, where more recreation and socialization activities are emphasized during the summer months. Monthly academic units are established and divided into specific weekly thematic classroom activities and projects.
Academic Curriculum
As a kindergaten preparatory preschool, Right Start Academy is dedicated to providing students with the tools neccessary for successful entrance into public or private grade school. To help assure this, RSA will utilize the Houghton Mifflin Curriculum for their academic program. The Hougton Mifflin curriculum is a hands-on, minds-on curriculum that is based on scientific research. Aligned with key Pre-K learning goals, it provides children with the foundational skills they need to succeed as lifelong learners. Physical Education Curriculum
Like adults, children need exercise too. According the American Heart Association, children ages 2 and up, should participate in at least 30 minutes of enjoyable, moderate-intensity physical activities every day that are developmentally appropriate and varied.
Physical fitness classes will be provided everyday as part of the physical education curriculum. Offered will be fun fitness activities that help develop strength, flexibility, healthy minds and bodies. Instilling the importance of nutrition will be added to assist with developing a life-long positive attitude towards health and nutrition. Providing group physical activities will also help children develop team-building skills that will promote social development with peers. Trained instructors will create a safe, nurturing environment that children can work at their own pace.
Coordinated Approach to Child Health (CATCH), a coordinated school health program will be utilized as the basis for our physical education curriculum. The four CATCH components: Go for HEALTH, CATCH Physical Education, Eat Smart, and Family Home Team activities, reinforce positive healthy behaviors throughout the day.
